Earlier Detection of Alzheimer's Disease for African Americans

September 2011

Stations, the following is a news announcement. Suggested lead in 3, 2, 1…

(INTRO)

According to a 2010 report on Alzheimer's disease, African Americans are about twice as likely as their white counterparts to develop Alzheimer's and other dementias. Researchers are looking for volunteers from the community to participate in a new brain imaging study. This research will benefit all races and ethnicities.

Celebrated writer Dr. Maya Angelou describes how individuals can help.

(ANGELOU)

IMAGINE A WORLD WITHOUT ALZHEIMER'S. IMAGINE HOW ONE PERSON -YOU - CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. I AM MAYA ANGELOU. AND I KNOW FIRST HAND THE PAIN OF HAVING A LOVED ONE SLOWLY SLIP AWAY BECAUSE OF ALZHEIMER'S. THAT'S WHY I ENCOURAGE YOU TO PARTICIPATE IN A MAJOR RESEARCH STUDY. IF YOU OR A LOVED ONE ARE OVER 55, IN GOOD HEALTH, OR ARE EXPERIENCING MEMORY LOSS, OR HAVE EARLY ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE, YOU MAY QUALIFY. MEDICAL RESEARCH CAN LEAD TO NEW TREATMENTS AND HOPEFULLY, ONE DAY, EVEN PREVENT ALZHEIMER'S.
