Health Care in Mozambique
July 2008
Stations, the following is
a news announcement. Suggested lead in 3, 2, 1…
(INTRO)
Of every 1,000 babies born
in the African country of Mozambique, nearly 100 won't
live to see their first birthday. Entrenched poverty
following years of war leaves Mozambique with so few
doctors - only three for every 100 thousand people -
that midwives must be trained in surgery to save lives.
A new PBS documentary follows this daring experiment.
Emilia Cumbane is one of
the midwives.
