SO MANY COLLEGE ACCEPTANCES, SO MUCH
PARENT ANXIETY
~ Cost and Other
Critical Factors Weigh Heavily on Families During College
Acceptance Period ~
April 2008
April 1st marks the official
beginning of the college acceptance season for approximately
3 million parents and their college-bound children across
the country. For many high school seniors, the joy and
relief of receiving multiple college acceptance letters
is soon replaced with the stress of having to choose
a school that best fits their academic, financial and
emotional needs, all within a few angst-filled weeks.
In the past, this decision
has been left primarily to the individual student. However,
as tuition prices become a larger part of families'
budgets and students are faced with more options, parents
are playing a larger role in helping their children
navigate through this complex process.
In response to the anxiety
and challenges facing families during this time, College
Parents of America has created the first guide specifically
aimed at parents to help them guide and support their
children through this process. "Crunch Time: Solving
the College Acceptance Dilemma," is an online booklet
that counsels parents on the appropriate amount of involvement
in their child's decision and delves into every aspect
of the selection process.
The guide helps with how to
re-evaluate priorities based on now-mitigating factors,
and how to compare and negotiate for more financial
aid. The guide also contains interactive tools to numerically
weigh, analyze and rank colleges on such important criteria
as academics, campus culture, security, prestige and
others. "Crunch Time: Solving the College Acceptance
Dilemma" can be accessed through the College Parents
of America website, www.collegeparents.org
for a $4 research and processing fee.
College Parents of America
is the nation's only membership organization dedicated
to advocating for, providing information to and creating
access to deals and discounts for current and future
college parents.
