Campaign to Combat Dropout Crisis
April 2008
Stations, the following is
a news announcement. Suggested lead in 3, 2, 1…
(INTRO)
African-American students
are disproportionately affected by America's high school
dropout crisis. Nationwide, nearly one-third of students
will drop out this year, and nearly half of all African
Americans students won't graduate on time.
Marguerite Kondracke, president
and CEO of America's Promise Alliance, says holding
high-level discussions in every state to focus on solutions
is an important step.
(KONDRACKE)
WE ARE WORKING ACROSS THE
COUNTRY WITH GENERAL COLIN POWELL AND HIS WIFE ALMA
TO LAUNCH A NATIONAL CAMPAIGN TO REDUCE DROPOUT RATES
AND PREPARE MORE KIDS FOR COLLEGE. OVER THE NEXT TWO
YEARS, WE'LL BE CONVENING SUMMITS IN EVERY STATE AND
MAJOR CITY TO ADDRESS THE DROPOUT CRISIS. NOBODY CAN
SOLVE THIS ALONE, BUT WORKING TOGETHER, WE CAN MAKE
ENORMOUS STRIDES TO SEE THAT ALL OF AMERICA'S YOUNG
PEOPLE GRADUATE FROM HIGH SCHOOL AND ARE PREPARED FOR
COLLEGE, WORK AND LIFE.
