(INTRO)
America is facing a high school
dropout and college-readiness crisis that affects its
future workforce. Nationwide, nearly one-third of high
school students drop out before graduating. A new report
released by America's Promise Alliance shows only about
half of kids served by the main school systems in the
nation's 50 largest cities graduate.
Marguerite Kondracke, president
and CEO of the Alliance, says businesses are increasingly
working towards solutions as part of the Dropout Prevention
campaign.
(KONDRACKE)
WHEN KIDS DROP OUT OF HIGH
SCHOOL, IT TAKES A TOLL ON OUR ECONOMY. WE WANT TO MOBILIZE
EVERY STATE AND CITY TO REDUCE THE DROPOUT RATE AND
EASE THE BURDEN TO TAXPAYERS. WE'RE CONVENING SUMMITS
IN EVERY STATE TO CREATE AN ACTION PLAN. WORKING TOGETHER,
WE CAN SEE MORE YOUTH GRADUATE FROM HIGH SCHOOL READY
FOR COLLEGE AND READY TO SUCCEED IN THE WORKFORCE OF
TOMORROW.

State Farm, AT&T, Boeing,
Ford, Marriott and others are working on important summits
to be held in every state. For more information, visit
