Critical Drunk Driving Legislation
March 2008
Stations, the following is
a news announcement. Suggested lead in 3, 2, 1…
(INTRO)
The Virginia
Senate Courts of Justice Committee will consider lifesaving
legislation today that would require the installation
of alcohol ignition interlocks for all convicted drunk
drivers, including first-time offenders. With only one
week remaining in Virginia's 2008 legislative session,
it is crucial that the committee pass the bill and allow
the full Senate to vote on it. Chris Konschak, executive
director of MADD Virginia, says alcohol ignition interlocks
for all convicted drunk drivers will save lives in Virginia.
(KONSCHAK)
ALCOHOL IGNITION
INTERLOCKS ARE ESSENTIAL TO ELIMINATING DRUNK DRIVING
IN THE COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA. WE STRONGLY URGE THE
COMMITTEE TO PASS THIS BILL AND ALLOW THE FULL SENATE
THE OPPORTUNITY TO ENSURE THAT THIS BILL IS A PRIORITY
IN THE LAST FEW DAYS OF THIS SESSION. IT WOULD BE UNCONSCIONABLE
TO GRANT CONVICTED DRUNK DRIVERS ANOTHER YEAR TO DRIVE
RECKLESSLY ON VIRGINIA'S ROADWAYS AT THE EXPENSE OF
VIRGINIA FAMILIES.
