(INTRO)
Friday night on PBS, Bill
Moyers Journal will air the first television interview
with the Reverend Jeremiah Wright since he became embroiled
in a controversy for his remarks and his relationship
with Barack Obama. Wright, who retired in early 2008
as pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago,
where Senator Obama is a member, has been at the center
of controversy for comments he made during sermons,
which surfaced in the press in March.
In the interview with Moyers,
Reverend Jeremiah Wright responds to the media firestorm
over the controversial remarks.
(WRIGHT)
I THINK THEY WANTED TO COMMUNICATE
THAT I AM UNPATRIOTIC, THAT I AM UN-AMERICAN, THAT I
AM FILLED WITH HATE SPEECH. I FELT IT WAS UNFAIR. I
FELT IT WAS UNJUST. I FELT IT WAS UNTRUE. I FELT FOR
THOSE WHO WERE DOING THAT, WERE DOING IT FOR SOME VERY
DEVIOUS REASONS.

The interview airs Friday
night at 9:00 p.m. on PBS. Check local listings for
