What Your Legs Could Be Telling You
February 2011
Stations, the following is
a news announcement. Suggested lead in 3, 2, 1…
(INTRO)
Approximately nine million
Americans over 50 are living with a disease that affects
their legs and raises their risk of a heart attack,
and many do not even know they have it. February is
Heart Month, and the Vascular Disease Foundation is
urging Americans to listen to their legs.
Dr. Michael Jaff, medical
director of the Massachusetts General Hospital Vascular
Center, explains the dangers of P.A.D. - or poor circulation
of the legs.
(JAFF)
PEOPLE WITH P.A.D. ARE AT
INCREASED RISK OF HEART ATTACK, STROKE, AMPUTATION,
AND EVEN DEATH. SYMPTOMS OF P.A.D INCLUDE: FATIGUE OR
CRAMPING IN THE LEG MUSCLES DURING WALKING THAT GOES
AWAY WITH REST; FOOT OR TOE PAIN THAT DISTURBS SLEEP;
AND WOUNDS ON THE FEET THAT HEAL SLOWLY. THE GOOD NEWS
IS THAT PEOPLE WITH P.A.D. CAN PROTECT THEIR FUTURE
HEALTH THROUGH EARLY DETECTION AND PROPER TREATMENT.
