PERSONAL TECHNOLOGY AND ENTERTAINMENT
~ Microsoft Unveils
New Wave of Software-based Services for TV, Online,
Mobile Phones and Automobiles and Announces Entertainment
Partnerships with MGM, NBC Universal, Sony, CBS, Samsung
and Time Warner ~

Speaking at the 2008 International
Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Microsoft Corp. Chairman
Bill Gates and Microsoft Entertainment and Devices Division
President Robbie Bach unveiled new services and entertainment
partnerships that demonstrate how software is creating
new entertainment experiences online, in the home and
on-the-go.
As a part of the keynote,
Gates and Bach unveiled several new consumer offerings,
including ways to access and share your favorite TV
content, new search capabilities for the mobile phone
that enable you to "say and see" the information you
need using voice recognition software, and an expanded
set of safety and entertainment experiences available
through Microsoft Automotive.
Microsoft announced several
new partnerships, including an exclusive partnership
with NBC Universal that makes MSN.com the exclusive
online home of the 2008 Summer Olympics. And the company
unveiled new entertainment experiences for its award-winning
Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) service Microsoft Mediaroom™
and multimedia platform, including several features
to connect consumers with their favorite content, and
partnerships with Showtime Networks and Turner Broadcasting's
TNT and CNN networks to personalize the way people enjoy
their favorite television shows, movies and sports content.
The company also highlighted
new fashionable PC styles from a variety of manufacturers,
offering the greatest-ever selection of sizes, shapes,
colors, textures, design flourishes, and accessories
inspired by Windows Vista's own design to create customized
and personalized experiences on the PC.
Bach went on to highlight
the momentum behind Microsoft's consumer products and
the strength of the company's consumer business which
now spans home computing, gaming, automotive software,
mobile phones, and home and portable entertainment.
