Voting Equipment in New York

Stations, the following is a news announcement. Suggested lead in 3, 2, 1…

(INTRO)

Super Tuesday's presidential primary will be the last time some New York voters pull the lever the old-fashioned way. Counties across the state are updating voting machines and, by February 8th, election officials in each county must select new equipment to meet federal disability law guidelines.

WITH MILLIONS OF DOLLARS AT STAKE, IT'S IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND THE IMPACT OF DECISIONS BEING MADE BY NEW YORK'S COUNTIES. VOTING SOLUTIONS AVAILABLE TODAY MAKE CASTING A BALLOT MORE ACCURATE THAN EVER. ONE METHOD THAT NEW YORK IS CONSIDERING IS OPTICAL-SCAN VOTING, WHERE CITIZENS MARK THEIR SELECTIONS ON A PAPER BALLOT THAT'S FED INTO A TABULATION DEVICE. THE MACHINE SCANS AND COUNTS THE VOTE, PROVIDING MAXIMUM SECURITY AND AUDITABLE RESULTS. AND, FOR BLIND CITIZENS, THERE'S NEW TECHNOLOGY THAT CAN LITERALLY "SEE" FOR THE VOTER.
