Small Business Use of Social Media
May 2011
Stations, the following is

(INTRO)
A new survey finds that 73%
of small businesses now use social media marketing.
But that doesn't mean that other tools like email marketing
are going by the wayside.
Mark Schmulen from Constant
Contact says the data suggests that more small businesses
are now using social media, email and other online marketing
tools together to increase their impact.

IN OUR SURVEY, WE ASKED MORE
THAN 1,500 SMALL BUSINESSES WHAT KEEPS THEM UP AT NIGHT:
EIGHTY PERCENT REPORTED ATTRACTING NEW CUSTOMERS. ALMOST
SEVENTY-FIVE PERCENT REPORT USING SOCIAL MEDIA TO ADDRESS
THAT CHALLENGE. BUT, E-MAIL MARKETING REMAINS THE FIRST
AND MOST FREQUENT TOOL THAT SMALL BUSINESSES TURN TO,
TO CONNECT WITH CURRENT AND NEW CUSTOMERS. IN FACT,
SEVENTY-TWO PERCENT CHECK EMAIL SIX OR MORE TIMES A
DAY. SO WHAT'S THE WINNING FORMULA FOR GROWING A SMALL
BUSINESS? THE SURVEY SUGGESTS IT'S ACTUALLY A COMBINATION
OF THE TWO. E-MAIL LIGHTS THE FIRE AND SOCIAL MEDIA
FANS THE FLAMES.
