(INTRO)
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's
Patterson Award for Excellence in Sports Philanthropy
celebrates people within the world of sports whose passionate
efforts make a difference in the lives around them.
This year, the award was
presented to former NFL quarterback Brian Griese for
his work with Judi's House, a grief counseling center
for children he founded in Denver.
(GRIESE)
I AM HONORED TO RECEIVE THIS
AWARD ON BEHALF OF EVERYONE WHO WORKS SO HARD TO MAKE
JUDI'S HOUSE A PLACE WHERE NO CHILD HAS TO FEEL ALONE
IN GRIEF. I HOPE THAT THE PATTERSON AWARD WILL SERVE
AS A REMINDER TO EVERYONE WHO IS LUCKY ENOUGH TO MAKE
THEIR LIVING IN PROFESSIONAL SPORTS THAT WE HAVE A VERY
UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITIES WHERE
WE LIVE, WORK AND PLAY.

Cincinnati Reds Community
Fund also won for their MATCH program, which brings
together youth baseball teams from the suburbs and the
inner city. For more information, visit rwjf.org.

Additional bite from Charley
Frank, Reds Community Fund Executive Director.
(FRANK)
THIS IS AN INCREDIBLE HONOR
FOR THE REDS COMMUNITY FUND. IN JUST A DECADE, WE HAVE
CREATED SOME UNIQUE PROGRAMS THAT IMPROVE THE LIVES
OF YOUTH THROUGHOUT REDS COUNTRY THAT USE BASEBALL AND
SOFTBALL AS A HOOK. I HOPE THAT THE PATTERSON AWARD
WILL SERVE AS A REMINDER TO EVERYONE WHO IS LUCKY ENOUGH
TO MAKE THEIR LIVING IN PROFESSIONAL SPORTS THAT WE
HAVE A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITIES
WHERE WE LIVE, WORK AND PLAY.
