(INTRO)
We all want to avoid accidents,
but some professional drivers take safe driving to the
extreme. Now, UPS has inducted 1,122 more drivers into
its elite "Circle of Honor," raising to 5,248 the total
number of active drivers steering clear of accidents
for 25 years or more.
Top safe driver Ron "Big Dog"
Sowder of Ohio has rolled to an astounding 49 years
and four million miles of accident-free driving.
(SOWDER)
I STARTED DECEMBER 5, 1960.
I ALWAYS LIKED TO DRIVE. SPACE AND VISIBILITY IS NUMBER
ONE. THE WORST THING I SEE NOW IS TEXT MESSAGING. I
GIVE THEM A WIDE BERTH, AND GET AROUND THEM WHEN I THINK
IT'S SAFE. IF YOU LISTEN TO THE OLDER DRIVERS, THEY
CAN SAVE YOU A LOT OF GRIEF. I LEARNED A LOT FROM THEM.
(CLOSE)
Collectively, these drivers
have logged more than five billion miles and more than
147 thousand years of safe driving - enough miles to
circle the earth more than 188,000 times.
