February 2008
Stations, the following is
a news announcement. Suggested lead in 3, 2, 1…
(INTRO)
More than 300,000 Iraq and
Afghanistan veterans have already sought care from the
Department of Veterans Affairs for physical and mental
wounds. Now, the 1.3 million-member Disabled American
Veterans (DAV) is launching a grassroots initiative
to improve health care for our nation's veterans.
Joe Violante, D-A-V national
legislative director, says a new bill will help women
veterans.
(VIOLANTE)
IT'S CRUCIAL CONGRESS STRENGTHEN
VA HEALTH CARE PROGRAMS TO MEET THE HEALTH CARE NEEDS
OF VETERANS, INCLUDING THE GROWING NUMBER OF WOMEN VETERANS.
THERE IS A LOT WE DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE POTENTIAL HEALTH
IMPLICATIONS FOR WOMEN SERVING IN COMBAT ZONES. THANKFULLY,
THE WOMEN VETERANS HEALTH CARE IMPROVEMENT ACT WOULD
GIVE VA THE RESOURCES TO ADDRESS THE UNIQUE NEEDS OF
WOMEN VETERANS.
(CLOSE)
The legislation is being introduced
next week by Senator Patty Murray. It supports the DAV's
larger initiative to educate the public and members
of Congress on the health care needs of America's veterans.
